BREAKING NEWS: One dead and at least four others injured in Kentucky high school shooting as suspect is apprehended

At least one person is dead and multiple others are injured after a shooting at a Kentucky high school.

The shooting broke out at Marshall County High School in Caldwell on Tuesday at about 8am.

Kentucky State Police said the suspect was apprehended by a Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy and the scene is now secure.   

At least five people are believed to have been shot but it is not clear if any staff members were among those injured.

‘Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS… Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded… Much yet unknown,’ Governor Matt Bevin tweeted.

The school was placed in lock down and the entrances to the school were blocked off by first responders.

Parents were being turned away from the school as students and staff remained locked in classrooms.

A student inside the school tweeted just after 8am that multiple people had been injured. 

‘Pray for Marshall County High School, I am a student there and we just had a school shooter, multiple students injured, please pray for us,’ she wrote. 

Initial reports suggest the shooting may have taken place in a common room.
