Armed robber wearing a mask, wig and glasses pulls off audacious heist of the Bellagio Casino’s poker cage – just 30 feet from actor James Woods who praises staff for acting ‘cool under pressure’

An armed robber has held up the Bellagio Hotel & Casino on Tuesday and is reportedly still at large, according to police.

Described as being a white male wearing a mask and wig the suspect approached a cage with a handgun, demanding an unspecified amount of money at 3.45pm.

The Las Vegas Sun reported that the suspect fled the scene soon after.

Local police added that the teller stayed calm while handing the man the cash, in efforts not to worry guest.

And while officers were soon on the scene, the suspect had already gotten away, having parked in the valet for easy access.

Also on the scene was actor James Woods who happened to be inside the Bellagio during the robbery and offered on-the-scene tweets at the time.

Actor James Woods was at the Bellagio at the time and was able to live tweet the events surrounding the robbery

‘So we are playing poker at the @BellagioPoker and a guy walks up with a gun and robs the cage thirty feet from us ten minutes ago,’ he tweeted on Tuesday.

‘@Bellagio staff were fantastic. They surrendered the money quietly, so no customers would get hurt. Nobody even realized it was happening. Excellent staff, cool under pressure.’

‘So evidently the guy got away,’ added the 70-year-old actor upon hearing that the culprit had escaped.

‘The @Bellagio security made a point of not engaging him after the actual robbery to guarantee the safety of their customers.’

Las Vegas police are looking for a silver Chevrolet Cruze and asking for help identifying the vehicle with Nevada license plates.

MGM Resorts International, owner of the Bellagio, plans to work with investigators to identify the suspect.

Metro Captian John Pelletier said that they are ‘comfortable and confident’ that they have enough to apprehend the man.

Images from the robbery are scheduled to be released tonight.

The Las Vegas Sun reported that a person may have been brought inside the casino, against their will.

But that person was said to not have cooperated with the suspect and helped police instead.

Sections of the casino have been roped off as police conduct their investigation. The suspect was said to have parked his car in the valet and used that to make a speedy exit

The Bellagio grew in popularity after the 2001 film Ocean’s Eleven had stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Bernie Mac – and more – pull off a mega-million dollar heist at the casino.

Police do not believe the man had any accomplices.

Earlier this year in March, Sebastian Gonzalez and three others donned animal mask while robbing a jewelry store at the Bellagio.

Gonzalez told local law enforcement that someone threatened his family’s safety if he didn’t carry out the heist.

A suspect was arrested back in 2014 after stealing $45,000 from the Bellagio and embarking on ‘wild night on the town.’
