Disney+ unveils new Star Wars series lineup during four-day Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim
The world of Star Wars is continuing to expand via television.
Following the underwhelming box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018), Disney decided to slow down the output of Star Wars theatrical blockbusters, opting instead for a streaming push on its Disney+ platform.
And the lineup of shows on the Disney docket was laid out, in part, during the four-day 2022 Star Wars Celebration event at the Anaheim Convention Center that kicked off on Thursday, May 26, according to Deadline.

First up is Ewan McGregor returning in Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is set 10 years after 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
The series debuted the first two episodes on the streaming service on Thursday, May 27.
The six-episode season follows Obi-Wan’s life in exile on Tatooine, and marks the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin/Darth Vader.
The cast also includes Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, Moses Ingram, Benny Safdie, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Simone Kessell, Vivien Lyra Blair, Flea, Jimmy Smits, Kumail Nanjiani, Marisé Álvarez, Rya Kihlstedt, Indira Varma and O’Shea Jackson Jr.

Diego Luna is reprises his role as rebel spy Cassian Andor in Andor, which will take place five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Created by Tom Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One and four films in the Bourne franchise, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters during the time that a Rebel Alliance is forming in opposition to the Galactic Empire. One of these characters is Cassian Andor, a thief who becomes a revolutionary and eventually joins the Rebellion.
Indie Wires is reporting that Genevieve O’Reilly has been confirmed to return as Mon Mothma, and Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Carl Staller will co-star.
The first two episodes are slated to premiere this summer, on August 31. The rest of the 12-episode season will be released weekly.
A second 12-episode season is in development and will conclude the series.

There’s also the upcoming anthology series Tales Of The Jedi, which is comprised of original animated shorts. The show will have stories featuring Jedi from the prequel era, according to a report from Deadline.
The only other animated anthology to come to the Disney platform had been Star Wars Vision in September 2021.
Tales Of The Jedi is expected to drop sometime in the fall.
Young Jedi Adventures is another new Star Wars series on the docket.
Taking place during The High Republic era, Young Jedi Adventures will follow Younglings as they learn the ways of the Force, while en route to becoming fearless warriors.

Rosario Dawson had the honor of debuting the live-action version of Ahsoka Tano on The Mandalorian.
And now, in a sign that she was a bonafide success, Dawson’s has gotten her own series, Ahsoka, that will have Dave Filoni serve as executive producer alongside showrunner Jon Favreau.
Hayden Christensen is reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. The cast also includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
Filming only just began in early May 2022, so the Ashoka is not expected to debut on Disney+ until sometime in 2023.

Pedro Pascal is back in action in season three of The Mandalorian.
Set after the events of Return of the Jedi, series creator Jon Favreau wrote most of the season and Bryce Dallas Howard is expected to be back as director.
It also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Katee Sackhoff, Emily Swallow, Christopher Lloyd and Omid Abtahi.
Having just wrapped the shoot in March 2022, season three of The Mandalorian is scheduled to premiere on the streaming service in February 2023.
