‘Not even worthy of a toilet read’: Amazon deletes more than 100 negative reviews for Megyn Kelly’s new memoir after Trump supporters launch campaign to ruin the book

Supporters of President-elect Donald Trump have flooded Amazon with negative reviews of Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly’s new memoir.

More than 100 negative reviews of Kelly’s ‘Settle For More’ appeared on Amazon’s site within hours of its release Tuesday, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The publisher only released a few advanced copies, which usually go to members of the media.

The newspaper reports many of the negative comments came from a link from a pro-Trump Reddit forum called ‘The_Donald’.

Several posts on the forum instructed readers to write negative one-star reviews on the book’s Amazon page.

‘46% of Megyn Kelly’s book reviews on Amazon are 5 STARS. You know what to do,’ one post written four days ago reads.

Kelly and Trump had a contentious relationship during the campaign, which started after she asked him a question about his history of sexist comments during the first Republican debate.

Trump took the question personally and continued to negatively tweet about Kelly for months, before the two patched things up and organized an exclusive Fox News interview.

As of Wednesday, Amazon had deleted most of the initial negative reviews, but some one-star comments still remained

Kelly continued to receive death threats from Trump supporters and most the past year her and her family have been protected by body guards.

Tina Andreadis, an executive with the book’s publisher, HarperCollins, told the LA Times the reviews have the ‘hallmarks of an orchestrated effort to discredit the book’ and brought them to the attention of Amazon.

Many of the negative reviews disappeared from the site by early Wednesday.

Amazon didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

You don’t need to have purchased an item on Amazon in order to write a review of it. However, if you have bought an item through the website, it registers the commenter as ‘certified’.  It appears that Amazon took down most of the uncertified comments.

Trump supporters were quick to catch on. In another post on The_Donald, one Reddit user pointed out that you could purchase an item, write a review, and then cancel the order.

The targeted effort against the book could be potentially disastrous to sales, since 50 per cent of best-selling book sales are made on Amazon.
