An important part of any dinner party is serving guests teas and coffees after they’ve eaten delicious food.
And to go with their drinks, they’ll need a teaspoon to stir in their cream, milk or sugar.
But this can make for a pile of washing up at the end of the night – and that’s if you’ve been lucky enough to find enough clean ones to give to your guests in the first place.
Thankfully, there is a solution to this all too common problem, and one that will save you precious minutes of washing up dozens of spoons next time you have a large crowd over, not to mention money on buying a new set if you don’t have enough to begin with.
You can use spaghetti strands to give to your guests at a dinner party instead of teaspoons if you don’t have enough to go around – it will also save on washing up
And the secret is probably already in your kitchen cupboard.
Next time you have guests round, instead of giving them spoons to stir teas and coffees, hand them long strands of dry spaghetti instead, suggests The Kitchn.
It may sound odd, but the hard and long pasta threads do just as good a job as a spoon does when it comes to stirring hot drinks, the magazine claims.
And if you get a big enough clump of pasta, you can even use the ingredient to wring out a teabag to make sure your guests’ cups of tea are strong enough in flavour.
Forget teaspoons! Spaghetti can be used instead to stir hot drinks. You can break the strands in half if you’re worried about wasting food
If you’re worried about wasting food, you can break the spaghetti strands in half and it will work just as well, it’s claimed.
Placing dry spaghetti into boiling water may seem like a foolish trick – after all, that is exactly how you cook the ingredient.
But as you’ll only be using the strands as stirrers for a few seconds, it won’t have time to cook and become floppy.
Once you’ve used it, just discard the pasta strand and you’ve saved yourself from washing up hell.
It’ll certainly be a conversation point at the dinner table, if nothing else.
