A boyfriend has come up with an innovative way of saving his girlfriend’s goldfish from an agonising existence.
Aidan, of London, said his girlfriend’s 23-year-old pet ‘Sally’ had been stuck at the bottom of her tank for months and it was ‘heartbreaking’ to watch her struggle.
But he came to the fish’s aid by creating a makeshift lifejacket out of a cork and a piece of an old bikini to allow Sally to stay afloat.

After uploading footage of the goldfish swimming in the remarkable device, his story has gone viral, with tens of thousands of people sharing it on Facebook.
In a statement on his YouTube page, where he posted the footage, the recruitment website co-founder said: ‘Sally is my girlfriend’s 23 year old goldfish. For the past few months she was stuck on the bottom of her tank.
‘It was heartbreaking. So I made her a little lifejacket and now she’s killing it!’
The footage starts off with shots of Sally struggling to swim properly and she appears to be unable to lift the left side of her body.
He added it took a few attempts to create the lifejacket before the couple finally got it right.
His efforts have been praised on social media, with the lifejacket described as ‘awesome and creative’

Writing on Facebook, Dympna McMullan said: ‘There are horrible scum out there slaughtering animals & just being cruel to them full stop…then you have great ppl (sic) like this that go to all that trouble to save a goldfish…that’s what humanity is all about.’
But others have called for the fish to be moved to a bigger tank to improve its quality of life.
